a tale of two cities

well, i finished a tale of two cities yesterday and i would have to say that it is probably one of the better books i have read. i began reading it over the christmas break and never seemed to be able to finish it because of certain distractions here and there, so it feels pretty good to have it done and read now. all throughout i was very impressed with the visual language and metaphors used by dickens. the way he described his characters and the environments surrounding them blew me away sometimes. i even knew before beginning the general makeup of the story and how it ended and i still found myself very entertained throughout. i really recommend it to anyone who, like me, was supposed to read it in high school but never did because they cheated and read the "cliff's notes" instead. its well worth the time. it was also really cool to read about the french revolution and how the unjustly oppressed ironically became the unjust oppressors through their ascension to power. anyway, good read. check it out.

p.s. i just probably scared heidi better than i have ever scared anyone before in my life...IT WAS AWESOME!...in fact she's still trying to stop hyperventilating from it all...soooo funny!

snow shoeing

monday of course was martin luther king jr day. monday was also dump 12 inches of snow day. as result, heidi and i decided to profit from the situation and go snow shoeing! as you can see, it was pretty fun. the hughes have a cabin up millcreek canyon so we thought we'd go explore around millcreek a bit and then go to the cabin and light a fire, cook pizza...and of course...watch lost...which still dominates.
in other news, i got on as a research assistant with a professor in my department for a longitudinal teen pregnancy study. its one of the ones i really kind of wanted to do so im pretty excited for the opportunity.

go utes

so heidi and i just got back from the byu utah basketball game...and we lost...of course...in the final seconds. oh well, the game was still really entertaining and a ton of fun to go to. heidi of course was cheering for byu so she was pretty stoked.

Flight of the Conchords Foux Da Fa Fa

holy cow this is funny.

back to school

sorry its been a while since my last post. school has started up again and it looks like this semester...which (hopefully) will be my last...is going to go pretty well. Im taking cognitive neuropsychology, childhood and adolescent development, and history/theories of psychology. we're only in the second week of things so its a bit premature for me to be able to tell how well ill like my classes, but so far they seem promisingly interesting. along with taking those class ill be doing the academic advising again, acting as a ta for a careers class, and taking two lab classes attatced to my history/theories class. along with work that should keep me busy. i also am currently trying to get on as a research assistant for one of the studies going on in the department...hense the image above. im currently looking at two or three that i really would like to do so hopefully it will work out.
in other news, lost dominates...still...in case any of you forgot or something. heidi has never seen lost so of course im making her get caught up before the new season debuts.
